O serotyping

In certain cases, such as for the definitive identification of a septicemic E. coli for which the virulence factors are not all well known or in epidemiological studies, we recommend O serotyping of E. coli isolates. O serotyping is carried out using slide agglutination. The O serotypes for which we test are listed below.

H typing

We can currently test submitted strains and isolates for the H7, H10 and H43 antigens by PCR. We are in the process of adding other H antigens frequently found on pathogenic E. coli to this list. Please contact us if you have specific requests.
